Report on Industrial IoT cyber vulnerabilities

Kovrr just released a report that estimates the potential for large insurance losses to the United States manufacturing industry due to industrial IoT cyber vulnerabilities that were discovered recently in VxWorks.

A widely used industrial IoT operating system which is currently embedded in more than 2 billion devices. IoT security company Armis lately discovered a group of vulnerabilities in VxWorks, dubbed URGENT/11.
The report, ‘How Industrial IoT Could Trigger the Next Cyber Catastrophe’, covers two scenarios: one that looks at an attack on a large enterprise and the other on a widespread attack impacting 700 US manufacturers.
The report (on Industrial IoT cyber vulnerabilities) also discusses the importance of having the capability to conduct gap analysis and getting immediate visibility into potential exposure to new and emerging cyber threats. The Authors of the report are Amir Kessler – a cyber risk modeling product lead at Kovrr and co-founder Shalom Bublil, the companies Chief Risk Officer. In the conclusion of the six page report they say:

In order to avoid being overly exposed, (re)insurers must have the ability to quickly determine a portfolio’s exposure to newly introduced vulnerabilities. By being able to conduct an accurate and timely delta analysis, (re)insurers can quantify any significant variance caused by the newly introduced exposure and react accordingly.
