Microsoft Global IoT Award goes to Swisscom for Track Digitization

Swisscom’s received the Microsoft Global IoT Award in the IoT category at the Microsoft Partner Awards. The swiss telecom company triumphed over more than 4,400 other nominees. Swisscom received the award for their cooperation with Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group on a project to digitize railway infrastructure construction sites. In the project, both partners rely on Microsoft cloud infrastructure and Azure services.

Urs Lehner, Head of Swisscom B2B, said:

We were pitted against IoT system integrators across the world and have come out on top. In partnership with our customers, we are ready to develop, implement and operate comprehensive integrated ICT solutions that generate genuine business benefits.

Swisscom’s IoT innovations on Azure Stack Edge ensure the efficiency of railroads while transporting millions of people and goods. Their technology promotes efficient construction and maintenance processes, increases financial and ecological value, and enables tracking and monitoring of all machinery all the time. Swisscom allows the integration of global construction sites into train, streetcar, and subway timetables. Thus, the company is improving the punctuality and reliability of rail transport by encouraging more people to use this form of transportation.
In the overview-paper of all winners of the “Partner of the Year Award” Microsoft wrote: Swisscom drives digitization and innovation by building solutions on scalable, standardized platforms and blocks that can be reused and deployed worldwide. The solutions implemented in Swiss railroad construction are now applied in Germany and can be scaled globally to meet the needs of the $11 trillion construction industry.
