GLORY announces IoT-based vending machine solution with Deutsche Bahn

The global technology company Glory announced the start of a new IoT-based vending machine solution for German railroad company Deutsche Bahn. At two heavily frequented train stations in the greater Munich area, passengers can now choose fresh products from the region – these can be ordered in advance via a web app on their smartphone or directly at the machine. This solution is the first of its kind in Germany and will be offered by Deutsche Bahn under the “Zugvogel” brand. The machine combines IoT-supported hardware and cloud-based software. It also allows remote monitoring of the temperature in the cold room and the best-before date of the individual items. It also provides a detailed overview of the stocks of the machines at any time.IoT-based vending machine
As consumers are increasingly concerned with the selection of their food, details on ingredients, allergens and the origin of the products on offer are displayed on a large screen on the vending machine or can be accessed via the web app. Another important aspect in terms of sustainability and environmental compatibility: every item that is sold via the Zugvogel vending machines can be traced back to the original, local manufacturer.
Dominik Cipa, Director of Innovation at Glory Global Solutions, said:

We are delighted to be working on this project with a world-renowned company like Deutsche Bahn. Our combination of cloud-based software and IoT hardware enables a complete solution that meets the increased demand of consumers for fresh, regional food that is accessible around the clock.

With products from‘ Zugvogel ’, travelers and locals can eat healthier food, support regional manufacturers and thus contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. Commuters who want to get a healthy meal ‘to go’ on their way to work or home will particularly benefit from this. With this offer, we want to make the stations more attractive for our guests and attract more people to the environmentally friendly train,

adds Mareike Schoppe, Head of Station Management Greater Munich at Deutsche Bahn.

After the first two installations, Deutsche Bahn is planning to expand the machine network in Munich. Other locations in Germany may follow.
